History & Background
Water colour painting was developed in England around 200 years ago. During 1800th century European artist formed an organization of water colour artist. After the establishment of this organization it attained the status of important form of painting. Brisith artist Joseph Turner, Girtin, John Constable & Colman were the leading artist who took initative in forming this organization. They showed their works in international Art exhibition held in Paris in 1855 and the work in water colour was appreciated by all. During 1881, Queen Victoria conferred the name Royal water colour Society to this organisation. To know more names of Great water colour artist are John Sargent, Winslow Homer, Willam Flint who took this art to new heights. Edward Siego, Edward Wesson, John Pike’s era was considered as golden era of water colour painting.
Course Objectives
Objective of the course is to know about water colour medium, different papers, variety of brushes, how to preserve brushes for its long lasting usefulness. Application of water colour. How to obtain various shades by mixing different colours. How to do eye catching paintings applying contrast colours with proper perspective. Light & shade effects. How to work speedily as to achieve good results in water colour painting. How to select angles for landscape painting. It all depends upon observation skills. Faculty gives certain hints for this during the sessions.
Course Contents
- 1st session - characteristic of the medium is explained. Variety of papers available. Quality of brushes available. Color wheel, Primary colours, secondary colours, similarly harmony colours, complimentary colours, warm & cool colours, colour values, Graded wash are explained & practically shown to the participants and participants are asked to do accordingly.
- 2nd session - Landscape painting begins in this session. In water colour painting work starts with lighter colour to darker colour. Participant does simple landscape painting which boost their confidance to use this medium.
- 3rd, 4th sessions - Landscape painting in class.
- 5th session - Landscape painting outdoor with perspective angle.
- 6th, 7th sessions - Still life is taught. Still life means some objects are kept in front of the members with drapery and the painting is done with shade & light effect.
- 8th session - Nature drawing by keeping flowers with leaves and stem in the class.
- 9th session – Nature drawing outdoor session.
- 10th Session - Revision of any one of above session as per participant’s demand.
